Learning manifesto
Learning Manifesto for Dyslexia Intervention and E-Portfolio Initiative
I genuinely believe that every student, no matter their learning challenges, deserves an opportunity to develop and show off their skills so they can thrive in school and beyond. As a dyslexia interventionist, I'm all about creating an environment where students feel empowered to dive into their own learning journeys.
My goal is to give students the tools they need to effectively highlight the knowledge, skills, and experiences they've gained during their time at Crosby High School. By implementing e-portfolios, I want to help students transition into college and future careers, allowing them to reflect on their growth and showcase their talents in different ways (Canada, 2016).
I will continue to grow and learn by collaborating with my colleagues, such as counselors, technology specialists, and elective teachers, to develop a solid and well-rounded approach to e-portfolios. Through professional development, I’ll ensure teachers are ready to help students create meaningful portfolios that highlight their academic achievements, extracurricular activities, volunteer work, and personal growth.
I’ll encourage students to reach their potential by using e-portfolios as a way to share their learning in various ways—essays, videos, artwork, and more. By introducing this tool into their learning experience, students will not only boost their digital literacy and critical thinking skills, but they’ll also build confidence in how they present themselves to colleges and future employers. This process not only builds confidence but also enhances their ability to articulate their experiences to colleges and potential employers (Guardia, 2023).
It’s all about improvement, both for myself and for the students I work with. I’ll seek professional development opportunities to deepen my knowledge of best practices in dyslexia intervention and e-portfolio creation, and I’ll set up a system so students can refine their portfolios over time and help educators measure student growth and success.
I know that working with the broader school community, including administrators, counselors, and technology staff, is key to making this initiative a success. Together, we’ll create an environment that encourages growth, creativity, and a fundamental understanding of each student’s unique learning journey (National Labor Management Partnership, 2022).
I’ll measure success by tracking how engaged students are with their e-portfolios, the quality of what they create, and how positively it impacts their college applications and job opportunities. I'll also evaluate how practical our professional development sessions are in empowering educators and boosting the integration of e-portfolios into our curriculum.
I believe that by building and sharing e-portfolios, students will be better prepared for whatever comes next in their lives, whether that’s heading off to college or into the workforce. This initiative will not only help students but will also foster a culture of continuous learning, leadership, and community growth within our school.
In conclusion, I'm committed to supporting our students’ academic and professional development and contributing to the ongoing growth of our school community by encouraging a culture of learning that embraces technology, reflection, and teamwork. Through this initiative, I'm confident we can help our students succeed now and in the future.
